...Welcome Back Players and Fans

It's time to get back on fields, links and cross-country courses. Mass. high school football players officially began practice Aug. 20 and that included our high school team. Coaches and play- ers will make conditioning top priority before donning the pads. GDRHS football team opens the season at home, Fri- day, Sept. 7 against Maynard.

Practice for all fall sports has been on- going this past week.

Boys' golf team kicks off the season at Narragansett Regional HS for a match Friday, Aug. 31 at 3:30.

Girls' field hockey moves up a division from Mid-Wach C to Mid-Wach B. A demanding schedule including games against North Middlesex, Quabbin, St. Bernard's will test their mettle.

Other sports teams start play in the days to follow. Once again, the Groton Herald will publish upcoming games and report results. For team schedules and results visit www.mwlma.org.

Hard to forget the excitement of last years' State Championships in boys' soc- cer and ice hockey and girls' volleyball qualifying for districts for the first time. Looks like an exciting fall sports season.
