SPORTS: GD Boys Lacrosse Defeats Bellingham
In a MIAA Central/East Division 3 First Round lacrosse game, No.6 Groton-Dunstable (10-8) had its way against visiting Bellingham (3-17), with a convincing 13-1 decision. The Crusaders' offense was led by senior Quintin Forbes' three goals, 4 assists, and three goals each from senior Tristan Lynch and sophomore Ryan Dodge.
The Crusaders, with depth and experience, dominated from the onset, cycling the ball with quick, short passes and scoring seemingly, almost at will. Forbes set up Nick Irby for the first goal at 7:31 of the first quarter and GD would never look back. Goals from Ryan Dodge, Tristan Lynch, Forbes and Paul Leonardo made it 5-0 before Bellingham's Paul Dwelly scored his teams' only goal.
GD won seven draws to one for the Blackhawks in the first 24 minutes. "Winning the draws is everything. Ryan (Heinser) did such a great job for us. That gives you possession and it makes such a difference," said coach Rick Arena.
Zach Cotoni added a goal and four assists while PJ Kendall made 6 saves in goal for GD. The Crusaders will play at No. 3 Ashland (12-8) at 2 p.m. on Saturday in a quarterfinal.
