GIRLS BASKETBALL

Groton-Dunstable 46, Oakmont 33                                       

Freshman forward Hannah Van Pelt had four points, 13 rebounds and four steals, and Lindsay Werner had 17 points, eight steals and six assists for the Crusaders (1-2), who upended the Spartans (0-2) in the consolation game of the Pete Trainor Memorial Tournament. Halftime: O 19, GD 17.

Groton-Dunstable 58, Fitchburg 46

Junior Lindsay Werner (9 assists, 4 stls) scored a game high 21 pts, to pace the visiting Crusaders (Midland B) past previously unbeaten Fitchburg (Midland A). GD trailed 24-21 at the half and again by six at the end of three quarters. Not sure what Coach Mark Hennelly communicated to the team prior to the fourth quarter but it certainly got their attention. The Lady C's responded, outscoring the Raiders 28-6 over the final eight minutes. Melyssa Langell (14 points) and Werner each drained three pointers in the big fourth. Hanna Van Pelt (13 rebounds, 6 pts., 3 stls,), Jenna Plausse (6 pts.), Val Lutkevich (4 pts.) and Alex Pray (4 pts.) made solid contributions to help the Crusaders even their record at 2-2.

St. Bernard's 60, GD 54

Tara Crowe (18 pts. 7stls, Allyson Esielionis (16 pts.) for St.B's. The visiting Bernardians (4-1) broke a 43-43 deadlock after the third quarter. Junior guard Lindsay Werner scored 24 points for the Crusaders (2-3), who led most of the first half. Alex Pray (9 pts.), Melyssa Langell (9 pts.)Hannah Van Pelt (6 pts.).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Littleton 51, GD 41

Travis Bassett tallied 15 points and classmate Alex McLaughlin added 4 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks, 3 steals to pace Littleton (1-1) past the visiting Crusaders (0-3), 51-41. Drew Moore and Corey Romich scored 12 and had 11 points respectively for GD. Bobby Flanagan scored six points and Jack Allen had four for the Crusaders who trailed 26-19 at the half.
