Lady Cs Still Alive; Post Season within Reach

Led by UMass Lowell bound Rachel McCarron (15 pts, 8 rebs, 3 stls), Groton-Dunstable (8-9, 5-5 Midland B) took a 42-33 decision over visiting Marlborough. GD's Lindsay Werner and Riley Rogers each added 8 points, while senior Leanne Mueller added six points and several key rebounds coming off the bench.

Rogers and McCarron, with eight and seven points respectively, a three-pointer by Melyssa Langell and a Mueller basket had Crusaders ahead, 20-9 at the half.

A 10-4 run opening the third, spear-headed by Werner, gave GD a 30-13 lead and it looked like Marlborough (8-11, 4-6) was going to go quietly.

But the Panthers, with a recent win over Midland A league leading Algonquin (14-3), went on a 7-0 run behind Amanda Monfalcone's 12 second half points, closing the Crusader advantage to 10 points.

McCarron's high-light reel spinning, driving lay-up and a Werner finish had GD ahead, 40-31 with 2:24 left to play and the teams matched buckets the rest of the way.

The road to post-season continues but with land-mines along the way! Friday, 2/15 against Tyngsborough (17-0), followed with St. Bernard's (11-4) on Monday, 2/18 and Oakmont (9-8) Thursday, 2/21. All home games.

Crusaders must win two of three to qualify for the second season.
