Lady Cs Come up Short; Lose to Westborough 51-48
Westborough's Tori Flahive and Amy Wilichowski led visiting Rangers (3-1, 4-6) past Groton-Dunstable, 51-48.
Despite 21 points from senior Rachel McCarron, 11 points by Lindsay Werner and an outstanding 13 rebound, six point effort from senior Leanne Mueller, Crusaders (2-2, 4-5) missed an opportunity to take over second place in Midland B.
"I'm proud of their effort in the second half. The team worked hard, made a good run, got a good effort from Cate Cullen, Leanne (Mueller), Riley Rogers (6 pts, 6 assists and 4 stls) and of course Rachel McCarron is such a constant for us," Hennelly added.
Crusaders trailed 24-20 at the half but Rangers opened the third on a 7-2 run and GD had to play catch-up, again.
With just over six minutes remaining, a McCarron lay-up tied the game at 42-42 from a nice assist by Rogers.
Westborough pulled away again. With time winding down, Mueller was fouled and calmly drained both to even the teams at 46-46.
But Westborough outscored GD 5-2 the rest of the way and that was that!
GD travels to Marlborough for a match-up with Panthers (0-9) Jan. 18.
