Impressive Win For GD Baseball

Groton-Dunstable (3-5, 1-3) defeated visiting No.10 North Middlesex (5-3, 5-2) behind five strong innings from Justin Watt in Midland B baseball action. Watt picked up the win, allowing two hits and center fielder Andrew Sinnery relieved Watt in sixth, pitching two scoreless innings for the save.

With two outs in top of first inning, Patriots right fielder Shaun Pinnery doubled to right-center but Watt got a nice fly ball out to GD left-fielder Alex Marken ending the inning.

Crusader hitters took some time figuring out NM pitcher Jared Bordeman who throws a nasty curve. Bordeman had two Ks, four fly-ball outs over the first two innings.

But in the home half of the third, freshman Chris Lattini (2-for-2) got the first hit for GD, and scored on  Billy Mitchell's RBI single. Catcher Alex Marken stroked a two run double and raced home when Andrew Sinnery's bleeder got through the right side of the Patriots' infield for fourth run of the inning.

Patriots made it interesting plating two runs in the fifth, the big hits coming from Rich Sharp and Shawn Pinney.

GD got one back when Jeremy Gaissl singled and came home on Pat Keating's RBI single.

Crusaders varsity baseball coach Matt LeBlanc brought senior Andrew Sinnery in the sixth. Sinnery allowed a two out double to Logan Kuzmith then retired the side in order in Patriots' seventh.

"I've relieved before," said Sinnery. "Not my favorite thing to do. But you do what has to be done to win."

"We did not hit and we came out flat," said NM coach Tom Bartleson. "They took advantage and deserved the win."

Watt allowed two hits, with 3Ks through five innings. "Justin threw the ball very well and the team made the plays behind him," said coach Leblanc. "Chris Lattini (2 for 2, run) played solid defense and Bill Mitchell got a key hit keeping the third inning alive for us."

"Great confidence building win," concluded Leblanc.
