Impressive Win for Crusaders; Forbes, the Difference

Out with an injury earlier in the season, senior quarterback Quintin Forbes vowed to be back for the Thanksgiving Day game. Looks like Forbes never missed a beat, throwing three touchdown passes and rambling 60 yards for a fourth score, pacing the Crusaders to an impressive 35-21 win over host Tyngsborough in the sixth annual Colonel's Cup game.

A 12-yard TD pass from Forbes to Shane Dawson had GD ahead 6-0 (Kick failed) less than two minutes into the game. Forbes, on a QB keeper, then scored on a 60-yard run, pushing the visitors' lead to 12-0. Senior running back Tristan Lynch rushed for the 2-point conversion.

The Tigers' Austin Escott returned a fumble for a 20-yard TD (Austin Coene kick) to cut the Crusaders' lead to 14-7 after the first quarter. Tyngsborough scored late in the second stanza and the teams went to half tied14-14.

In the third quarter, TD passes from Forbes to Joey Stewart (10 yards) and junior Evan Lexo (16 yards), and two Eric YanchenkoPAT's gave GD a relatively comfortable 28-14 lead going into the final quarter.

A Tristan Lynch 13-yard run early in the fourth and Yanchencko's PAT earned the Crusaders a 35-14 lead.

Forbes, who was named G-D's MVP of the game, rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries and threw touchdowns to Shane Dawson, Joey Stewart and Evan Lexo. David Walker earned Tyngsborough's MVP, completing 5 of 10 passes for 85 yards and one touchdown. Walker rushed for the only touchdown scored in the second quarter.

Solid effort from PJ Kendall with had two sack s for the game.  Senior running back Tristan Lynch rushed for 53 yards, a touchdown and two-point conversion run.

For the Crusaders, it was their fifth over-all win in the six-game series. The Colonel's Cup is named in honor of two historical leaders from the colonial towns of Groton, Dunstable and Tyngsboro.
