Groton Pool & Golf/Country Club An Integral Part of the Community; Tournament Series Schedule
On March 16, PGA professional Jim Tennant arrived from Farmington CT. Since then, he has been committed to building a recreation facility par excellence for the residents of Groton.
"My hope is that someday Groton (Country Club) will become an integral part of the community," commented Tennant.
With golf membership up, PGA Junior Golf camps in full swing, tournaments, a refurbished Pro Shop, open house events, wellness activities, The Tavernand extensive swim programs headed by aquatics instructors Carol Wright and Jen Dimino , the GCC is quickly becoming "an integral part of the community."
About the junior golf program: Synthesis is the combining of separate material, skills or abstract entities into a single or unified entity. Don't be stressed with that definition!
Synthesis Golf, as Tennant's Junior golf camp brochure states, combines fitness, nutrition, art, etiquette, rules, physical skills, iron, putting and short game skills into the game of golf. There, that's better!
The friendly, knowledgeable program staff consists of local teachers who have extensive child behavior experience and small group instructional know-how. Stations throughout the camp are supervised by talented golfers with a range of background from high school and college experience to assist with instruction. A nurse is also part of a team that has each child's safety as its priority.
A typical day at the golf camp begins at 9:00 for grouping and briefing. From 9:15-11:15, campers are at stations. Team competitions run from 11:15 followed by lunch.
From 12:45-1:30, the emphasis is on fitness/Golf is Art. Then 1:30-2:00, campers participate in "Shot of the Day" followed by awards and cold treats.
Camp sessions remain on July 28-31 and August 4-7, both for advanced individuals age 11-14.
The motivation behind the program is to get kids of junior golf age, access to a facility and learn skills that will hopefully last a lifetime. The Groton Senior Golf League has members who continue to enjoy the game into their eighties and beyond! When time allows, come over to the GCC and see whats new.
