Groton Golf Association Third Annual Fundraiser Tournament
Groton Golf Association was formed in 2011 by a group of motivated men and women who are passionate about the Groton Country Club and are willing to volunteer countless hours to enhance all aspects of the golf experience at Groton. They do this because without a doubt, Groton Pool and Golf Center is a recreational gem. The "Green Jewell" as it is often referred to, is the best family-use facility in town.
Objectives of the association include increasing participation in the various events at the club, helping to improve conditions, playability, enhancing social activities and attracting new players and members to enjoy the bucolic beauty of our facility.
For the past three years, dedicated GGA members start the season with an annual Spring Clean-up. During that time members have contributed approximately 800 man-hours to sprucing up the course prior to the opening. Re-measuring course yardage markers, new post-and-rail fencing on the second tee box, safety netting installed adjacent to the ladies tee box on hole number nine are but a few of the recent improvements.
The Association's main event each year is its Course Improvement Fund Raiser, a fun golf tournament open to all. There are no residency or membership requirements.
Groton Golf Association contributed $8,000 towards the brand new, high quality, two level ninth tee box constructed by Guthrie Bros. Landscaping, one of the tournament sponsors.
The Third Annual Groton Golf Association Course Improvement Tournament, played this past Saturday, was a huge success. Congratulations to the winning foursome, Jim Rindo, Joe Reynolds, KC Johnson and Matt McDougal finishing with a score of 49.... 21 under par!!
