GD Boys Soccer Rocking!

Groton-Dunstable boys' soccer team defeated Quabbin 3-1 and trounced perennial power Marlborough, 6-2, in Midland B boys soccer action.

Quabbin's Phil Brooks got the Panthers on the board just four minutes into the contest when he re-directed a service with his chest that found the corner of the net past GD keeper Chris Buzan. The Crusaders responded quickly when Matt Straw fed a ball in front to Matt Tornaritis (assist: Straw) who placed it past Panther keeper Garrett Maggio to draw the game even at 1-1.

Six minutes later GD took lead when Straw sent a great pass to the back post where Matt Krikorian (assist: Straw) finished to the near post.

GD took a 2-1 the lead into the break with a dominating half out shooting Quabbin 15-3.

Crusaders soon continued their strong play, scoring the third goal in the 62nd minute.  Junior Gabe Dingle picked up a rebound close to goal and blasted the ball in the near post for the 3-1 lead.

"We received great play from Tim Hilbrunner, Patrick Keating, Eric Niemoller and keeper Chris Buzan," shared Coach Wisbey. Player of the Game was Tim Hilbrunner.

 

On Tuesday, Crusaders were ready against visiting Marlborough, jumping out to a 4-0 first half lead on goals from Gabe Dingle (assist: Matt Straw), Mitch Wheeler (assist: Matt Tornaritis), Matt Krikorian (assist: Matt Tornaritis) and Wheeler's second goal (assist: Matt Straw).

Matt Tornaritis popped in his second score early in second stanza to give GD a 5-0 advantage. Kevin Herrera put Panthers on the board in the 62nd minute. Matt Naughton add another for Marlborough six minutes later on a great free kick that sailed through the GD wall and into the near post drawing the gap closer to 5-2.  GD settled down play and in 76th minute, Andrew Karasevic gathered in a lead pass into the box from Matt Warren and he blasted it low past Panther keeper Arthur Torres.

GD received great play from Patrick Keating, Tyler Poitras, Tim Hilbrunner, Tyler Belanger, keeper Chris Buzan  and player of the game, Eric Niemoller.

Record: Marlboro 0-2 in Midland B and 0-3 overall. GD improves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in Midland B league play and travels to Westborough Thursday for 7 pm match up with defending league champion (2-1-2).
