Game Effort but Lax Men Fall Short

Westborough's Tony Cibelli tallied six goals and teammate Jake Foster added three goals and an assist leading the Rangers (10-7) to a 12-7 win over host Groton-Dunstable (10-9) in Midland-A League action.

Throw away the first and third quarters and the Crusaders win this game. But you have to play 48 minutes. The inability to win the draws in the first 12 minutes really hurt. The Rangers won five draws including the opening face-off and led 5-0 at the end of the quarter.

Not sure what was said between the quarters but there was a message and GD responded. Goals by Zach Cotoni (Quintin Forbes), two by Matt Manning and another by Nick Irby (Tristan Lynch) had the Crusaders trailing 5-4 before Westborough stopped the GD run, scoring a goal with 1:40 remaining in the half.

I expected the locals to come out flying after climbing back in the game with their impressive second quarter but the Rangers' Cibelli killed their momentum scoring seven seconds into the third quarter.

Westborough dominated the third quarter as thoroughly as GD had the second, scoring four goals and led 10-4 at the end of the third.

No quit in this Crusader team! Quintin Forbes played the fourth (3 goals) determined to carry the Crusaders to a win. But Westborough is a good team and you can't spot them five goals and expect to come out on top. The Crusaders finished the regular season Wednesday against Wachusett and will await the post-season pairings.
