Crusaders Stay on Track PHOTO
Captain Doug Rosa scored a goal in each half leading Crusaders to a 3-1 win over the Westborough Rangers. Rosa's first goal came from the right side when he broke in from a great feed from captain Nate Pomeroy and blasted the ball over Ranger keeper Michael Hillier for the 1-0 lead.
Four minutes later, Dan McGuiness redirected a ball sent into the six box from Alex Murphy pushing the Crusaders' advantage to 2-0.
Ten minutes into the second stanza, Doug Rosa's shot from outside the 18 box was deflected into the upper corner of the far post for the 3-0 lead.
Loic Pennick scored the lone Rangers goal with a steal from a Crusader defender and a finish over Crusader keeper John Nyilis to close the Crusader advantage to 3-1. GD received great play from Ben Lutz, Ryan Hardy, Eric Stone (assist) and game MVP Doug Rosa.
In non-league action this past Saturday, junior Dan McGuinness assisted on two goals in a four minute span to lead the Crusaders (10-2-2) to a 4-0 triumph over visiting Dracut High (7-3-3). Crusader senior Morgan Manthous broke a scorless draw when he received a great pass to the back post from McGuinness and blasted it past Middie keeper Ryan Fisher for a 1-0 lead.
At 56:12, McGuinness was at it again, breaking down the end line and sending a perfect pass to Doug Rosa in front who slid it by the beleaguered Dracut keeper to the near post for a 2-0 advantage.
Sx minutes later, Nate Pomeroy broke down the left side, cut in and sent a great pass to penalty spot where Alex Murphy placed a perfect shot to the lower corner to up the score to 3-0. Pomeroy leads Midland B and MIAA Central with 16 goals, 19 assists for 35 points.
Nick Fordham's (assist: Brogan Walsh) late goal made the final 4-0. GD enjoyed outstanding play from Eric Stone, Mike Keating Tim Hilbrunner and game MVP Dan McGuinness.
