Crusaders Lose Lead/Game

Groton-Dunstable (5-6) won the first half but St. John's - Shrewsbury (13-0) re-grouped, scoring nine second half points to win 11-6.

The visiting Pioneers, with wins over BC High and Xaverian, looked the part of an undefeated team. You know, that swagger.

The visitors led 1-0 early but GD was up for the challenge and took a 6-2 lead at the break on goals by Myles Markham, Quintin Forbes (2), Tristan Lynch, Ryan Dodge, Zack Cotoni combined with exceptional goaltending from PJ Kendall.

Junior Zach Cotoni scored the team's fifth goal on an athletic move, coming from behind the St. John's net and, in one motion, firing a low shot that bounced by Pioneer keeper Steven Kerr.

GD lost seven of nine draws but played solid, mistake-free defense and held the lead over the first 24 minutes.

The second half was all St. John's. The Pioneers continued to win the face-offs and the goals followed. Jared Ward (3 gls, 2 assists), Andrew Smiley (3 gls, 3 assists), Parker Jean (2gls.) led the rally that erased the halftime deficit. For GD, a well played game, a difficult, disappointing loss.
