Crusaders Clip Hawks

Visiting Groton-Dunstable (2-0) won its second straight football game in the young season, defeating Hudson, 23-6 at the Hawks' Morgan Bowl.

Sophomore backup quarterback Michael Tammaro, playing his first varsity game, filled in admirably for starting QB CoreyRomich who was out with an injury. I was at a practice a week ago Monday and for Coach Derek Asadoorian, the game plan was going through considerable changes.

It was obvious from the start that Coach Asadoorian was going to keep it simple for his young quarterback. Junior Shane Dawson had 19 carries for 202 yards and a TD while senior fullback Joey Orlando rushed for 140 yards on 20 carries and a TD.

Tamarro was1/7 but his lone completion went for 22 yards and a TD to Shane Dawson.

Defensively, GD was led by Ronnie Peck (9), Joey Orlando (6).PJ Kendall (7),JC Thorburn (4), Andy Femia (4), Mitch Townsend (1) and Shane Dawson (1) (Tackles in parenthesis) Billy Mitchell had an interception. Eric Yanchenko kicked a 28 yard field goal and added two PATs.

The Crusaders are home Friday, 9/26 @ 7:00 vs. Marlborough (1-1).
