Cohasset vs. Littleton, MIAA Division 6 State Championship

For you early risers, neighboring Littleton will meet Cohasset at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, December 7 at Gillette Stadium for the 2013 MIAA Division 6 Football State Championship. The Tigers are 12-0, 6-0 in Mid-Wach D while the Skippers finished at 11-1, 4-0 in the South Shore League.

Both teams have formidable ground games but are equally adept throwing the ball. Cohasset quarterback Chris Haggerty (73/122 attempts) threw for 1,086 yards and 14 touchdowns while junior running back Cole Kissick had 153 carries for 1,403 yards (9.17 yards per carry) and 19 TDs. Teammate Ryan Gillis gained 514 yards on 92 lugs with seven TDs. The Skippers outscored their opponents 436-121.

Tigers QB Alex McLaughlin does it all completing 68 of 119 passes (15 TDs) and gaining 1,137 yards on 105 carries for 18 touchdowns. McLaughlin spends more time in the end zone than the folks that line the field! Littleton senior Travis Bassett had 995 yards on the ground and18 touchdowns. Littleton tallied 491 points while allowing 199 in their 12 game schedules.

In the MIAA regional playoffs, Littleton defeated Bay Path Regional Tech and St. Bernard's Central Catholic by a combined 75- 27 score. Ouch! Cohasset defeated Nantucket 35-6 and Blue Hills Regional tech 42-28 the South sectional Semis.

Two solid programs. The outcome will most likely be determined by the team that played the stronger schedule. But both teams breezed thru their seasons with barely a hiccup so this is a hard one to pick. I like the TIGERS!
