Boys Summer Basketball League

Despite being on the short end of a summer league basketball game and with only six players available for Coach Allen, the Groton-Dunstable boys team was impressive with its feisty effort.

Jack Allen, Justin Flanagan, Login Higgins, Parker Blodgett and Ethan Cook started against a very athletic Fitchburg five.

"I like the way they continue to compete," said GD varsity basketball coach Greg Gillette.

"We've been in every game; competed, developed more continuity and the team continues to improve each game," shared Gillette sitting with me on the sidelines.

The game was even early when Flanagan's basket tied the game at fours.

But Fitchburg went on a 10-0 run with 15:43 remaining in the half, led 18-8 and never looked back. Point guard Login Higgins, up from last year's JV, looked impressive running the offensive and knocking down several threes.

"We're going to be in trouble. No bench for us and they have five subs," cautioned Gillette. "We're down a bunch but I'm proud of their effort."

Missing from the game were Drew Moore, Corey Romich, Gavin Keogh, Cedric Wirta, Tyler LaClerc, Kyle Priest, Shane Dawson, Jack Wadden.
