4-H Horse Bowl and Hippology-Middlesex Mustangs

The 4-H Middlesex Mustangs is a local horse club with members ranging in ages from five-18. The club is part of UMass Extension Animal Science Program. Mustangs love horses and most activities are horse-related. All members are from surrounding towns.

Every year the Middlesex Mustangs take part in Horse Bowl and Hippology contests where all 4H clubs in Middlesex County compete. There were more than 50 4Hers in attendance. Hippology is a test that gives 4-Hers a chance to show their knowledge about horses. In Horse Bowl participants face-off in front of judges to answer horse-related questions. In Hippology, Seniors Julia Harriman placed first, Sarah Messing placed fourth, and Maryrae Holman placed ninth. Juniors Grace McAfee placed fourth and Rachel McLeod-Warrick placed eighth. In Horse Bowl, Seniors Sarah Messing placed second and Julia Harriman placed third and juniors, Rachel McLeod-Warrick placed fourth and Grace McAfee placed ninth. Members who placed in Horse Bowl and Hippology will be able to move on to State Horse Bowl and Hippology in April.

Middlesex Mustangs had a food drive and donated the food to the T.E.O. in Townsend and to the Lunenburg Food Pantry. This year the goal was to exceed 218.5 Pounds. They collected a total of 223 pounds.

Feb. 29 between 4-9 p.m. is Middlesex Mustang's day at Leominster Papa Gino's located on 35 Commercial St. Come in with a Middlesex Mustang's flyer and the Mustangs will receive 20 percent of your total sale. Flyers can be obtained at http://db.tt/sGEUOXc3.
