Westford Academy Girls Hockey Team
The Westford Academy Girls Hockey team is composed of Westford, Littleton and G-D players, the team recently defeated Weymouth and Cambridge Rindge & Latin. The last two contests were 1-1 tied against Acton-Boxborough and Central Catholic. G-D’s Boys Hockey team improved to 8-1 defeating Westborough and Monty Tech, 5-1 and 9-0. Drew McKennon, Griffin Southwick, Owen Enos, Jonas Carpenter, Robert Flynn, Brody Acuena, Owen Bernard, Parker Woolfrey, and Anthony Polcaro all contributed to the avalanche of goals. Groton-Dunstable’s Varsity Hockey Team captured the Rockport Holiday Tournament Championship in Gloucester. A 6-1 Semi-Final win and a 5-1 victory in the Finals over Bishop Fenwick earned the tournament title for G-D, who are off to an impressive 6-1 start this season. Ashton Duane won the Freshman Mile at the New Balance Boston Holiday Challenge with a time of 4:55.22. Cameron Duane was 4th in 4:58.27. In the Varsity Boys Mile, Greyson Duane came in 15th at 4:36.54, Meghan McEleney was 5th in the Girls Varsity Mile with a time of 5:15, Tim Yafrate ran a 38.40 in the Varsity 300m, and Xander Crouse finished 8th in the High Jump. Just prior to the start of Saturday night’s boys basketball game at GDRHS, Athletic Director Matt Ricard and Coach Greg Gillette presented Zach Romich ‘25 with his 1,000-point-club basketball, joining his brother Ryan, Class of 2010, and Greg Twomey, Class of 2004. As shown in the banner above, Zach’s name had been added to the existing banner at the end of last season, acknowledging those players who had previously been honored for this amazing achievement. Zach is the 16th player in G-D’s history to accomplish this milestone. He scored 1,172 points in his career and is the all-time leader for career 3-point baskets made.
