BUDGET: Public Review, Sources, An Update

The Finance Committee will conduct a Budget Review with key departments on Saturday, Jan. 24, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Town Hall. Departments scheduled to present their 2016 budgets include the Groton Police Department, the Groton Fire Department, the Department of Public Works, the Library and the Parks Department. This in an open meeting and the public is invited to attend.

SOURCES OF REVENUE

In addition to the property tax increase allowed under proposition 2-1/2, Groton receives revenue from the State, from local receipts and from "new growth" (the increased tax base that comes from new houses, or renovations to current property). This year, the increase from all revenue plus the tax levy increase is estimated at more than 4%.

GOULD UPDATE

Tax Collector Mike Hartnett confirmed that Attorney Sherrill Gould of Littleton brought in a bank check for $19,657.31 to pay back taxes she owed on property on Mill St that was taken by foreclosure by the town. The town attorney will now process the paperwork to return the property to Gould possession.
