NRWA Healthy Heart Trails Project: "Exploring Trails in Shirley"

Nashua River Watershed Association (NRWA) continues leading exploration of Heart Healthy Trails in our watershed.  On Tues.Aug.4, at 6 p.m., we'll walk two trails in Shirley, a short 20-minute, guided walk at both sites: Taylor Field near Shirley Middle School and Oxbow Esker Trail within the Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge.  Each walk is 1.5 miles or less, and easy to moderate in activity level. This trail tour is free, open to all ages and all communities.

NRWA is seeking to introduce people to trails in their own "greater backyard" that are accessible to everyone, even those with physical limitations, including young children or elders.  Ggoal is to identify easy to moderately strenuous trails in six communities, to help people feel comfortable knowing location of trailhead and parking areas, and to motivate people to make walking these trails part of a healthy exercise routine.   NRWA's Healthy Heart Trails project is funded by a grant from the Bruce J. Anderson Foundation.

Trail tour will begin at Taylor Field near Shirley Middle School. Park along Elliot Street off Hospital Rd. in Shirley.  Google map and directions available at www.NashuaRiverWatershed.org.  We will drive to the other nearby trailhead, directions to additional that site will be provided at the first location.

Pre-registration not required, but appreciated.  To pre-register, contact Al Futterman, NRWA Land Programs and Outreach Director, at (978) 448-0299, or email AlF@NashuaRiverWatershed.org.  Additional Heart Healthy walks will be held each Tuesday evening in August; details will be posted in early August to your local paper and at www.NashuaRiverWatershed.org.
