Indian Hill Has All That Jazz

IHM will jazz it up in April with jazz-themed events, from workshops to concerts. First up, amateur jazz instrumentalists and vocalists are invited to two events with our jazz faculty: Open Jam Session on Friday, April 1, 8 pm with our faculty rhythm section led by noted jazz pianist Pamela Hines. ($10 suggested donation at the door). Jazz Rhythm Workshop Tues., April 12, 7 pm with percussionist Dave Fox. (ADMISSION: $10 at the door) Events take place at 36 King St., Littleton. 
    

Indian Hill’s concert series continues with “Ella Sings Ellington,” an afternoon of timeless tunes from the Duke Ellington songbook made famous by the great Ella Fitzgerald and interpreted by vocalist Suzanne Cabot with Indian Hill Music jazz faculty Pamela Hines, piano; Justin Meyer, bass; and Dave Fox, drums: Sunday, April 3, 3 pm at 36 King St., Littleton. (Tickets: $10) This concert is made possible by the Marjorie Besas Memorial Fund.
    

Increase your knowledge of jazz history with Indian Hill faculty member Jerry Sabatini (leader of the ever-popular Indian Hill Big Band) at our next Discovery Lecture – “Classical Meets Jazz: Third Stream Music” –Tuesday, April 19, 7 pm at 36 King St., Littleton. Explore the myths and misconceptions of this genre that lies between composed and improvised music. (Admission: $10 at the door.)

Indian Hill’s jazz theme culminates with the Orchestra of Indian Hill’s concert Saturday, April 23, 7:30 pm at Littleton High School, 56 King St., Littleton. Maestro Bruce Hangen and the Orchestra offer a jazzy season finale featuring a rare performance of Brubeck’s “Dialogues for Jazz Combo” with jazz faculty players Pamela Hines, piano; Bill Jones, saxophone; Justin Meyer, bass; and Dave Fox, percussion. Also on the program are Hindemith’s “Matthias the Painter” and Eric Kamen’s “Prologue.” (Tickets: $20-35-50.) Premier sponsor: Sterilite Corporation. Media Sponsor: GateHouse Media New England.
