CELEBRATE Townsend's Historic Howard Park
Townsend Historical Society joins Freedom's Way National Heritage Area and area towns to celebrate local "hidden treasures" Saturday, May 16, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Townsend is featuring the beautiful historic Howard Park. The public is invited to enjoy activities for all ages.
Enjoy walks conducted by Paul Sebring and Joan Wotkowicz. Supporters of land preservation will be interested in learning efforts made to protect the land from development, at the turn of the century when the land became Townsend's first public park, and in the mid-1980s, when the land became threatened by development.
History buffs are in for a double treat: old photographs and stories of those who played in the park as children and the people who loved and protected the land as adults; and a reenactment by Townsend Minutemen. Free of charge. Bring a picnic lunch, bring the kids or grandkids, and enjoy the day.
