On Thursday, March 21, 2024 Groton Daisy Girl Scout Troop earned their Daisy Engineer Badges with the help of Groton's own licensed professional engineer and Planning Board member Alyson Bedard. Specifically, Alyson educated the troop on the topic of civil engineering and bridges by use of a fun bridge strength experiment! The Groton Historical Commission, in an effort to highlight the extensive built heritage in Groton, has begun a pilot of a historic plaque program. Shown here is a plaque installed as part of the pilot at 228 Main Street for Jim and Claudia Desrosiers. It highlights that the house was home to two long-time Groton blacksmiths, Calvin Childs and Thomas Bywater. The Commission will make more information about the program available soon.
Happy Maple Sugaring Season! Groton Daisy Girl Scout Troop #77568 commenced the 2024 season by traveling to a local sugar shack to learn the science behind maple sugaring while simultaneously earning their "Daisy Think Like A Citizen Scientist" badges. Girl Scouts in Groton, Ayer, Shirley and Dunstable participated in World Thinking Day. The girls learned about different countries, cultures and traditions and then presented what they had learned.
