The picture above was taken at the welcome-back teachers' luncheon held on Tuesday in the cafeteria of the new Florence Roche Elementary School, with principals and assistant principals serving up burgers and dogs outside on the grill while the combined cafeteria staff prepared a delicious lunch for all teachers throughout our district. Prior to the luncheon, our new Superintendent Dr. Geoff Bruno spoke with all the teachers, sharing his enthusiasm and vision for the new school year. Alekhya Puttagunta from Groton has been named to the University of Delaware Dean's List for the spring 2024 semester. To meet eligibility requirements for the Dean's List, a student must be enrolled full-time and earn a GPA of 3.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale) for the semester.

Police Chief Mike Luth (right), says “A hearty welcome to Groton Police Department’s two newest officers, Ian Pereira and Tyler Melanson. They will soon be attending the police academy, representing the Groton Police department as they begin their training. We look forward to working with them for many years to come and are confident they will excel during this important first step in their careers.”

 

Groton’s new Fire Chief Art Cheeks was enthusiastically welcomed to the Select Board Meeting on Monday, July 29 by a standing-room-only crowd of Fire Department members, Police Department members, his family and many friends as he was sworn in to his new position by Town Clerk Dawn Dunbar. Amid applause, Chief Cheeks’ new badge was pinned to his uniform by his wife, Barbara.
