Rebekah Paxton Wins Cardinal Medeiros Scholarship to BU
Academy of Notre Dame senior, Rebekah Paxton of Groton, has won the prestigious Cardinal Medeiros Scholarship to Boston University. Cardinal Medeiros Scholars are awarded four-years with full-tuition based on their academic achievements, demonstrated leadership skills and contributions to their school and community.
Paxton has served as the Layout Editor for the school newspaper for three years, is involved in Glee Club and Campus Ministry, and is a member of the National Honor Society. She was also a member of the winning team in the statewide We the People competition at Harvard University last year. Outside of school, Rebekah volunteers to watch children during Mass at her local church.
Rebekah's first choice school was Boston University. "I knew from the very first visit to the campus that Boston University was the place for me," she said. She recalls the Friday night that she received confirmation of the scholarship, "I was notified by e-mail and my family was so excited, everyone was screaming. My Dad called all his friends," she beamed. Rebekah plans to study Political Science, and is looking forward to meeting new people at college. However, she also noted that it will be nice to see some familiar Academy of Notre Dame faces on campus.
