The Romich boys are at it again! Ryan, a junior, captains LeMoyne College men's basketball team. Kyle is a sophomore playing for St. Anselm College. In the 2014 NCAA Division 2 Men's Basketball Tournament, third-seeded Saint Anselm defeated sixth-seeded Le Moyne 73-62 in the quarterfinals of NCAA East Regional at So. Connecticut State. LeMoyne (17-12) appeared in the NCAA tournament for the first time since the 1996-97 campaign. St. Anselm (22-8) advanced to a semifinal game against So.Connecticut (30-2) and lost 78-72 on Tuesday. Ryan ('10) and Kyle ('12) graduated from Groton-Dunstable Regional where they each captained the boys' basketball team. They are the sons of Patrick and Sally Romich of Groton.

 

Erika Eipp had two goals and two assist as the No. 9 UMass women's lacrosse team recorded a 16-6 victory over Vermont Tuesday. Eipp transferred to UMass-Amherst from Louisville. In eight games at UMass, Eipp is the third leading scorer with 12 goals, 11 assists for 23 points. She is a 2012 graduate of Groton-Dunstable where she was a standout lacrosse player. She is the daughter of Neil and Darlene Eipp.

 

The Hynes 5 Miler Road Race was run in Lowell March 9. The 3rd race of the Wild Rover Series had 999 runners. Top male runner Jeffrey Viega, 23, of Lowell (25:54.6) and top female Kara Haas, 43, of Chelmsford (32:52.8).  Local runners with their times and places:  141 Leo Tometich (39:59.9) of Dunstable; 298 Priscilla Lawrence  (43:54.0) of Dunstable;  569 Steve Bowie (49:16.9) of West Groton;  610 Michael Stevens  (50:09.2) of Dunstable.  

Gymnasts from Nashoba Gymnastics Academy in Westford competed at Mass. Level 4 and 5 State Championships March 7-9 at Holyoke Community College. All Level 4 and 5 gymnasts who qualified traveled to compete against other qualifying gymnasts in their level and age division. The State Championship is the pinnacle of the USAG Mass. Junior Olympic Program's competing season, which usually begins in Dec. and ends in March. Kelly McGuinness (Groton), 3rd UB, 5th FX.
