Edward T. Fjeld

Edward T. Fjeld of West Groton and Harwich Port, CEO and founder of E. Fjeld Co. Inc., died Thursday, May 3, 2012 while scuba diving at Hathaway Pond on Cape Cod. He was 65 years old.

Fourth of four children of Oscar Fjeld and Elizabeth Delaney, Edward (Ed) was born June 17, 1946 in Cambridge. He grew up in Arlington and attended Arlington High School, Wentworth Institute of Technology and Northeastern University. Ed was the devoted husband of Denise Coville Fjeld, his high school sweetheart, with whom he spent the next 46 years. He was the proud father of Maryann, Kristina, Brian, Eric and Thomas and the loving grandfather of Brooke, Shannon and Dale Wilkins and Meredith Olenec. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Hamilton, his brother Fred Fjeld, many nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends, especially the Salvato family.

A devoted family man, Ed always put his wife and kids first. He did all he could to make sure his children had everything they needed, but were strong enough to stand on their own two feet. Ed adored his loving wife throughout their near half-century relationship. He was a very happy grandfather who took advantage of every opportunity to spend time with his beautiful grandchildren. Ed cared deeply for animals, especially his pets, and enjoyed spending time with his dogs.

Ed started E. Fjeld Co. in 1972 and continued to successfully run it until his passing. A machinist by trade, Ed always sought to advance his skills and knowledge, and became a very talented and brilliant design and manufacturing engineer. In addition to his intellectual gifts, he was guided by his kind and generous heart, and always ran his company with integrity and the best interest of his employees in mind.

Ed had many hobbies, which included scuba diving, walking his dogs in the woods, and working around the house. He loved to watch football, and among his favorite things to do was spend time with his family watching the Patriots play. He was also very fond of his time spend with his friends in Prince Edward Island.

A devoted Catholic, he was a parishioner of St. James Church in West Groton. Funeral from Badger Funeral Home, 45 School St., Groton followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Grace Parish Worshipping at St. James Church, St. James Ave., West Groton.
