Town Hall Parking Expansion

Town Manager Mark Haddad advised the Board of Selectmen that the town has the opportunity to expand the parking area behind the Town Hall onto abutting land owned by Groton resident Steve Webber under a lease agreement. The preparation of the vacant lot for parking will be done by the Department of Public Works, and DPW Director Tom Delaney estimated that the cost would be $5K with his department providing the labor

Haddad said the proposal would need to go to the Planning Board for approval. The property is assessed at $169K and has a tax bill of $2852. "I would like permission from the Board to do the lease for the amount of the taxes on the property. The Town will assume the insurance liabilities on the lot."

Haddad said that he would like to structure a long term lease for the property with Webber. Selectman Chairman Peter Cunningham suggested that Haddad also approach Webber to discuss the possibility of purchasing the property.
