Selectmen Appoint Michael Hartnett of Pepperell as New Tax Collector/Treasurer
Groton's new Tax Collector/Treasurer Michael Hartnett of Pepperell was appointed by the Town Manager and Selectmen after being chosen from a field of 16 applicants for the position.
Hartnett served for last 13 years as the Tax Collector/Treasurer for Pepperell. He strong ties to Groton where in the past several generations of his family lived in the town and where his uncle, Tom Hartnett, was Groton's long-term Tax Collector/Treasurer.
Hartnett told the Board that one of the reasons that he applied for the position was because "Groton treats employees well and that is very important to me."
He asked to set his start date May 13 as he wants to see Pepperell through their Town Meeting before he makes the change. Selectmen praised his commitment to Pepperell, agreed to the May date and welcomed him to his new position in Groton.
The Tax Collector/Treasurer Search Committee included Acting Finance Director Valerie Jenkins, Acting Tax Collector/Treasurer Joan Tallent, Town Accountant Patricia Dufresne, Assessor Rena Swezey, Human Resources Suzanne Loverin and Town Manager Mark Haddad.
