Rash Of Area House Breaks; Two Groton Homes Hit Last Week; Chief Palma Urges Vigilance & Caution

Last week two Groton homes, located on Route 40 and Forge Village Road, were robbed within a three-day period. Police suspect these robberies may be linked to similar crimes in the surrounding towns of Westford, Pepperell, Chelmsford, Bedford and Billerica. In addition to stealing jewelry, cash, flat screen TVs, laptops, iPods and Tablets, thieves smashed in doors and committed other random acts of destruction in the target homes, according to Groton Police Chief Donald Palma.

Chief Palma urges residents to be very observant about activity in their neighborhoods. In one instance, residents saw people acting suspiciously in the hours and days before the break-ins. "Call the police if there is any question or you see something that doesn't look quite right. Chances are that it isn't right."

The Chief cautioned residents that if they see something suspicious or they see damaged doors or other unusual signs that something is out of place when they approach their homes, not to go in but to leave and call Police from another location. He further urged residents to, "Stay alert and watch out for your neighbors."
