Kevin Lindemer Will Not Lead Pipeline Study Due to Potential Conflict of Interest Ruling

After going to press with the story headlined: "Kevin Lindemer, Energy Expert, To Lead Study Of Pipeline Proposal", the Herald has learned that Mr. Lindemer cannot provide public input on the pipeline due to his being an elected public official and the consequent potential for a conflict of interest. As of Monday evening, Mr. Lindemer had permission from his company to publicly discuss the pipeline.

But late Wednesday, he was informed by legal counsel that his status as an elected official who also works for a private company having had contracts with Kinder Morgan, it could be argued that he is in a position to benefit Kinder Morgan through his statements to the public. Consequently, his public comments could be construed to be a conflict of interest.

Selectman Jack Petropoulos said he and other officials working on getting similarly qualified people to speak and have had some good luck in an 'expert' capacity.
