Groton Electric Gives $100,000 to Schools for Technology
At their April 10 meeting, Electric Light Commissioners voted to provide a $100,000 grant to the town for wireless infrastructure for Groton-Dunstable Regional School District.
Groton Electric has a small reserve fund from a contract buy-out which allowed it to consider this grant. Monies from this fund have previously been used to reduce rates and the balance will be kept in reserve for GELD's future needs.
GELD decided to provide financial assistance to the school district when they heard there was a need for substantial infrastructure improvements. This also helps the town by avoiding a possible tax increase. As a town department, GELD continues to work cooperatively with other town departments to help ensure town needs are met.
