Groton Cultural Council Seeks Funding Proposals

Groton Cultural Council (GCC) has set an Oct. 15 postmark deadline for organizations, schools and individuals to apply for grants that support cultural activities in the community. GCC will host an info session Thurs., Sept. 25, 7 p.m. in History Room of Groton Public Library (GPL) for groups or individuals with questions or want info about the applications.

These grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities in Groton - including exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies or performances in schools, workshops and lectures.

This year GCC will distribute about $5000 in grants. Previously funded projects include art programs at GPL, musical performances at Groton Senior Center, and enrichment programs at Florence Roche School. Current members of GCC are Frank Conahan, Pat Hartvigsen, Monica Hinojos Gretchen Hummon, Mary Athey Jennings, Dina Mordeno, Lili Ott, Joni Parker-Roach, Susan Randazzo Schulman, and Ann Wilson. They are seeking proposals to bring a variety of programs to Groton to benefit all ages of residents and interests of the community, with special emphasis on programs originating from Groton artists, scientists and performers.

GCC is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural Councils serving 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. LCC Program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in arts, sciences and humanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to MACultural Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community.

Application forms and more info about the LCC Program available online at http://bit.ly/LCCgrantappform or through GCC's Facebook page. Application forms are also available at GPL.
