Thanks from the Parks Commission

Dear Editor:

I would like to acknowledge three people who made significant contributions to the town of Groton in association with the Parks Commission.

The first is Don Black. Don served on the Parks Commission for '15 years, many of them as the Chairman. I cannot adequately summarize all the things Don did for the town in his capacity as a Parks Commissioner. I can safely say there will be people who Chair the Parks Commission in the future, but there will only be one "Chairman", and that is Don Black.

The second person I would like to recognize is Jeff Ohringer. Jeff served six terms as a Parks Commissioner. He was instrumental in establishing the Groton Youth Soccer Program. He is also the architect of the field complex we know as Cow Pond.

Finally, I would like to point out the contributions of Phil Jordan. Phil has been associated with the Groton Lacrosse Program since its inception. Over the last year, Phil has put together a core group of volunteers who have turned out an incredibly detailed application for a new field complex to support our youth sports activities in town. The final part of this process was submission to the state of a completed PARC Grant application in mid-July.

The entire town has benefitted from the efforts of these three residents. On behalf of the entire Parks Commission, I will say thank you.

Sincerely,

Jon Strauss

Chairman

Parks Commission
