Participating In The Struggle Against Environmentally Destructive Pipeline
Dear Editor,
Last Wednesday 87 citizens braved soaring temperatures and the threat of thunderstorms and came together on the banks of the Nashua River to participate in Groton's portion of the state-wide "Pipeline Resistance Relay Walk".
The Groton Stop the Pipeline Coordinating Committee (SPCC) wishes to gratefully acknowledge the assistance and support of the following individuals, community groups and organizations who contributed to the great success of this event.
The Lowell Sun's headline the next day, "Pipeline protest strengthens in Groton" best captures the event's impact. Please accept our sincere thanks for all your efforts!
Marion Stoddart, Environmentalist and featured speaker/ Maura Healey, Candidate for Attorney General, featured speaker/ Parks Commission, Co-Sponsor of the event/ Groton Conservation Commission/ Stuart Schulman, Groton Selectman and speaker / Russell Schott, Coordinator, State-Wide Resistance Relay Walk/ Paula Terrasi, Conservation Administrator, Pepperell/ Chief Don Palma and Groton Police Dept./ Elizabeth Ainsley Campbell and Nashua River Watershed Association/ Dan Fassett and the Snow Crow Band/ Walter Alterisio, and the Alter-Ride Van Service/ Katharyn Dawson, Second Hand Prose Bookstore/ Kirsta Davey, Photographer/ The Donaruma Family/ Event volunteers and, most of all, PARTICIPATING WALKERS!!
The struggle against this ill conceived, costly and environmentally destructive pipeline proposal continues. There are many better alternative solutions to New England's energy needs that need to be considered before committing to such a massive project. Your continued support at future events and in the coming elections this fall is needed and would be greatly appreciated. We extend our sincere thanks to all involved!
Richard Hewitt for the SPCC
