Nominees and Volunteers Wanted for Superintendent Screening Committee

Dear Editor:

Groton-Dunstable Regional School Committee is accepting nominations and volunteers for a Screening Committee that will review candidates seeking to become the next, full-time superintendent of G-D Regional Schools. Whoever is selected as the next superintendent will have a profound impact not only on our district but also on our two towns. Screening Committee is charged with identifying best candidates to lead our district and communities in the years ahead. Interested parties should confirm availability for all Screening Committee meeting dates and voice their candidacy by Friday, Nov. 9.

According to School Committee policy, the Screening Committee will consist of the following 15 members: Two members of the District's senior administrative leadership team, two teachers, a member of the support staff, a Selectman (or their appointed representative) from both Groton and Dunstable, two parents, two members of the District's support organizations, a member of Student Advisory Council, a member of Special Education Parent Advisory Council, a senior citizen and one other citizen at large from Groton and Dunstable. School Committee has appointed committee member Leslie Lathrop to serve as non-voting Chair of Screening Committee.

Members must be available for all Screening Committee meetings, including training sessions, all candidate screening sessions, and the meeting where final recommendations are made to School Committee. Dates for which nominees must commit availability are the following:

•Sat., Dec. 8 (all day), for training and selecting candidates to be interviewed

•Fri.,, Dec. 14 and Mon.-Wed., Dec. 17-19 (evenings, starting at 5 p.m.) for interviewing candidates

•Thur.-Fri., Dec. 20-21 (evenings at 5 p.m.) for identifyingfour to six finalists

•Sat., Dec. 22 (all day) as a contingency date in case of weather-related delays or disruptions

•Wed., Jan. 9, 2013 (7:15-7:45 p.m.), for recommending finalists at School Committee meeting.

School Committee understands that this is a difficult commitment to make, but it is essential that members do so in order to make the screening process as consistent and representative as possible.

Interested parties should contact Jim Frey, search spokesperson for the School Committee (jfrey@gdrsd.org, 978-649-8622) or Jeanne Mitchell, GDRSD Director of HR (jmitchell@gdrsd.org, 978-448-5505 x217) by Friday, Nov. 9. Because there may be multiple applicants for several of the 15 spots, such as district support organizations, parents, and citizens at large, the School Committee will conduct a random drawing from all qualified names forwarded at the School Committee meeting Nov. 14.

Respectfully submitted,

Jim Frey
