LETTERS: All I'm Askin' For Is A Little Respect

Open Letter to the Groton Board of Selectmen.

Is it time to update the name of your Board and the title of present and future female members?

Some years ago our former Congressman Marty Meehan was succeeded by Nicole Tsongas, a woman, who right away was addressed as Congresswoman Niki Tsongas.

Ms. Anna Eliot now serves on the Board but is not the first woman to do so. I am not aware of any steps taken to reflect her gender in her title, and your Board's name was left as is, without showing that it is not an all-male body.

Wouldn't Selectwoman be an appropriate title for Anna Eliot and for other females who may be joining this Board?

As to updating the Board's name to reflect the presence of both genders might you consider "Board of Selectmembers?"
