LETTER: Thank You to Fire Department

Dear Editor,

The students and staff of Florence Roche Elementary would like to thank the Groton Fire Department for their visits to our school last week in conjunction with Fire Safety Month.

Each class had the opportunity to experience the SAFE House and talk with the firefighters and EMTs. Students in grades K-two learned about fire safety, including ways to prevent fires in the home as well as cooking and candle safety. Students in grades three-four learned about weather-related safety including how to prepare for and what to do in case of severe weather. In addition all students were given a SAFE (Student Awareness of Fire Education) tee-shirt to take home.

Students really enjoyed the chance to engage with firefighters and EMTs in this fun and educational setting. Such opportunities to make connections to their community and to those who serve and protect are so very valuable for the children, and we thank the Groton Firefighters for taking the time to share their expertise with us.
