Anna Eliot Has Navigated Groton through Good Times and Bad

Dear Editor:

Where were you in 1950 when the population of Groton was just 2,800 souls? When there were only 88 people living on every square mile of land?

Anna Eliot was right here. Born and raised in Groton, Anna has participated in our town as it navigated through good times and bad, while its population quadrupled to more than 10,000 but its crime rate remained at just three percent compared with a national average of 100.

While I am asking questions, how much land has your family donated to public conservation?  The Gould and Ware families, Anna's grandparents set aside 75 acres for our recreation and enjoyment; and by "our enjoyment," I mean your family and mine.

Few have been as able stewards of our town as she has been. Anna is not a one-issue candidate. She has no personal axe to grind. She serves for the betterment of the town of Groton.  For more on the forces that helped to define Anna's character, I urge readers to review the piece I wrote on her late father the year before his death at the following link: http://gusongroton.blogspot.com/2011/06/albert-palmer-gould.html?m=1

In the spirit of full disclosure I will add that I was asked by Anna to manage her campaign finances.  After a successful six-year tenure, past treasurer Ted Roselund has stepped down and passed the torch to me. We could use your help. Please send a check for $10, $20, $50 or what you can to the Anna Eliot Campaign Committee, P.O. Box 513, Groton, MA  01450.
