John Edward Holston

John Edward Holston, born February 21, 1936, of the late Hazel (Campbell) and William Holston, passed away peacefully in Zephyrhills, Florida on January 20, 2022, at the age of 85.
     Born in Allston, Massachusetts and raised in Harvard, Massachusetts, John was the beloved husband of Lorene N. Holston for 63 years. A longtime resident of Groton, Massachusetts, John was the proud owner of Johnie’s Texaco on Main Street in Groton for 35 years and a devoted member of the Groton Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years. You may have also seen him working police details for the Groton Police Department, or taking care of the grounds of Sacred Heart Church. With his loving wife, Lorene, John enjoyed square dancing with the Groton Merry Mixers and Acton Square Wheelers, as well as ballroom dancing. He loved traveling in his motor home, cruising the Caribbean Seas, candlepin bowling at Harvard Lanes, and hunting with his sons. John had a love for playing poker and was well known to frequent casinos - always trying his luck at the slot machines. John was a proud participant of the Fireman’s Muster in West Groton. Most importantly, John was truly known by all for his unwavering love for his family, kindness, infectious smile and endless sense of humor.
     John is survived by his loving and beautiful wife of 63 years, Lorene N. Holston; son, Dean E. Holston and his wife Teresa, of Pelham, New Hampshire; daughter, Melanie J. (Holston) Clark of Gainesville, Virginia; son, Jonathan L. Holston and his wife Heather of Gilbert, Arizona; seven remarkable grandchildren, Derek Holston and his wife Chelsey; Kurt Holston and his wife Katelyn; Kortney (Holston) Murphy and her husband Bryan; Shyla (Clark) Costenbader and her husband Daniel; Michael Clark and his fiancé Kimberly MacFarlane; Sarah Holston, and Jacob Holston, four beautiful great-grand children, Kali and Kinley Holston; Liam and Jack Holston; his sister, Nancy (Holston) Forest; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. John is predeceased by his brothers, William, Chester, Morris, and sister, Joanne (Holston) Daley.
     Services will be held January 24, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, 4128 Treiman Boulevard, Ridge Manor, Florida 33523.
     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at StJude.org.
