EVENTS: Merrimack Valley Jewish Federation To Honor Rep. Barney Frank

Merrimack Valley Jewish Federation will present Tikkun Olam Award (Repairing the World) to U.S. Congressman Barney Frank at its 25th anniversary dinner and gala Sunday, June 8, 6 p.m.at Temple Emanuel, 7 Haggetts Pond Rd., Andover.

"The award has been traditionally given to a person who represents the values that we, as Jews, hold sacred," according to Laurie Mindlin, Executive Director. Frank has served as a U.S. Congressman for 31 years and has been a leader in the fight against discrimination.

In addition to accepting the award, Frank will speak on "The Budget and Jewish Values."

The Federation will also honor Margery and Norris Bendetson, Sarah and Saul Goldberg, both from Haverhill, and Phyllis and Terry Howard of Chelmsford for their commitment and generosity to the organization for the past 25 years. The Young Leadership Award will be presented to Luba and Alex Katsev of North Andover.

The evening will culminate with a performance by Clark Rubinshtein, 11-year-old opera prodigy from Newton. In his short career, Rubinshtein has performed a solo concert at Jordan Hall last January and at a German castle last summer.
