FEATURES: Mystery of Contents of Town Safe from Auction Revealed

While not matching the suspense of Geraldo Rivera's Special on the opening of Al Capone's safe, the buyer of an unopened safe at town auction discovered $100 within. Although the buyer paid $150 for the safe at town auction, the suspense, mystery and anticipation before opening the safe was probably worth the $50 loss.

In addition to the safe, sale of old fire trucks came in about $4,000 while other vehicles were purchased for their scrap value. Town Manager Mark Haddad advised Selectmen that the town generated a total of $19,000 from an "extremely successful" auction of town-owned vehicles and miscellaneous equipment and other items from the December event.
