Dennis Patrick Murray

Dennis Patrick Murray, age 71, of Groton, passed away Friday, November 8, 2024 at his home with his family at his side.  Dennis was born in Erie, PA on January 12, 1953, the first son of Paul Joseph Murray and Kathryn Ann (Genck) Murray. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his godparents, Margaret Murray and Charles Genck, and his niece Maggie Mae Murray.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Sherry Ann (Flannery) Murray; his son Brendan Patrick Murray; his brothers Brian Murray of Erie, PA, and Terrence (Joyce) Murray of Fredricksburg, VA; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and good friends.

Dennis graduated from Cathedral Prep High School, Erie, PA, where he excelled in water polo and swimming, earning a swimming scholarship to Penn State University, from which he graduated in 1971.

Dennis will be remembered for his love of family, his devotion to his church, his love of travel, camping, scuba diving, motorcycle riding, photography, and his active lifestyle, including racquetball and golf, as well as his humor and wit.

Dennis retired as a Program Manager at Hanscom Airforce Base.

Dennis was a member of Our Lady of Grace parish, where he served as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and trainer for altar servers.

Dennis was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus Sister Lydia Longley Madeleine Council #13140, Groton, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree Bishop Beaven Assembly #396. As a member of Council #1340, Dennis served as Grand Knight and was, at the time of his death, a trustee.

Dennis was also an Assistant Scout Leader for Troop #3, a member of the PSU Business Fraternity (Delta Sigma Pi) and of AFCEA (Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association).

Friends and family gathered to remember Dennis for a period of visitation at the Badger Funeral Home, Groton; his funeral mass was celebrated on Nov. 15, 2024 at Our Lady of Grace worshipping at St. James Church, 13 St. James St. Groton. An additional memorial service will be held in Erie, PA, in the summer of 2025, a date to be determined.
