More Than Words: Art, Artists, and Books

"More Than Words" is an exhibit of two- and three-dimensional artwork that uses the artist's book as a starting point for individual and collaborative work. It is on view in the Owen Smith Shuman Gallery of the Groton Public Library from April 7 - June 15. There will be a reception for the artists Saturday, April 21 from noon-2 p.m. and the public is welcome. There will also be an artists' talk and workshop on folded paper books Saturday, May 5 from noon-2 p.m. Please see our website to sign up for the workshop.

Four artists who exhibited together at the Depot Square Gallery in Lexington are finding new ways to work together and bring the results of their independent and collaborative work into the public realm now that the gallery has closed. This show, designed with the public library exhibition space in mind, expands the concept of the artist's book. Deborah Read Belguendouz, Jeanne Borofsky, Joyce Collier Fearnside and Jan Cadman Powell have made a series of collaborative artists' books specifically for this show. These artists have stayed together through a tough economic climate, surviving the downturn in art sales by banding together and coming up with creative ways to find new avenues for showing their work.

This exhibit was made possible by the Groton Public Library Endowment Trust. The artists' talk and workshop is made possible by the Groton Trust Funds Lecture Fund. Library hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 10-9, Friday 10-5, and Saturdays 10-3.
