Rules for Senior Work Off Program Change

Groton Senior Work Off Program will have some significant changes this year including an increase in the amount of reduction in property tax, an increase in the amount of hours required to earn this benefit, filing Federal income taxes by participants on the earned income, strict income eligibility requirements and reduction in number of seniors that will be able to participate in the program.

Countdown to Reopening The Boutwell House

This is the first in a series of articles on Governor George S. Boutwell, one of Groton's leading men and a character of singular accomplishment and interest.

From a store clerk with no college degree, he rose to become Governor of Massachusetts and Secretary of the Treasury under President U.S. Grant. Boutwell was a well-respected farmer and agricultural experimenter as well as first president of the Groton Water Company.

Bountiful Basil

Making fresh pesto is a great way to use up a lot of basil, whether you have plants growing like crazy in your garden or you're buying it by the armloads at the market. There are many varieties of basil, from the mild "Lettuce Leaf" to the pungent purple "Fluffy Ruffle". The large leaf variety works best in this recipe. The best part of this pesto is that it can be frozen if you leave out the cheese. You can always add the Parmesan later.

Groton Golf Association Third Annual Fundraiser Tournament

Groton Golf Association was formed in 2011 by a group of motivated men and women who are passionate about the Groton Country Club and are willing to volunteer countless hours to enhance all aspects of the golf experience at Groton. They do this because without a doubt, Groton Pool and Golf Center is a recreational gem. The "Green Jewell" as it is often referred to, is the best family-use facility in town.

Hunting License

Now is the time to get antler-less deer permit if you want to hunt in Massachusetts. The drawing is online so get yourself to a computer and if you don't have one, head for the library. If you have no one to help you, head to the Mass. Wildlife office in Ayer. It's on Route 2A just outside the center of town. Bring your license. If you have no license, you can buy one while there with last year's hunting license or a hunter safety card.
