Ann (Fielding) Walsh

Ann (Fielding) Walsh, 80, of Groton, unexpectedly passed away Friday, September 23 at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston surrounded by her family. She was born on January 4, 1942 to George F. and Mary (O’Connor) Fielding in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. She grew up in Fitchburg where she graduated from Fitchburg High School and then worked at Mathieu’s Chevrolet as a secretary. Ann married the love of her life, John P. Walsh, on September 22, 1962. 

Ann loved the town of Groton where she lived for over 60 years. She worked at Nashoba Valley Technical High School as a financial secretary and later retired as the Town Accountant for the Town of Groton. She was very detailed oriented and would spend hours balancing the books and trying to find that one cent that was missing, she found it every time!! In her retirement she loved being part of the Women’s Club where she was treasurer and only gave up the position a few months ago. She was also a former member of the Groton Red Hat Society and enjoyed their many outings and adventures. At one time she was a member of the Groton Historical Society and would give tours at the Boutwell House. She was well versed in the history of the town where she made her home. Ann enjoyed her bi-weekly game nights with her friends playing Mexican Train and playing cards with her family. Ann was always sitting at the kitchen table looking out over Hemlock Park Drive drinking her coffee or doing a puzzle. 

Ann is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Dwyer) and her husband Michael of Shrewsbury, and her son Matthew Walsh and his wife Tryna of Pepperell. She greatly loved her 3 grandchildren: Kristine Fox and her husband Chad, Bridget and Liam Dwyer and her 2 great-grandchildren: Harper and Claire Fox. She is also survived by her sister Alice (Moulton) MacGregor of Ayer and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband John, her brother Jack Fielding and sister Mary Lou Erickson. 

Visiting hours will be held in the McGaffigan Funeral Home, 37 Main St. (Rte. 113) Pepperell, MA on Thursday, September 29th from 4 to 7 p.m. Ann’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Blessed Trinity Parish worshipping at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church, 107 N. Main St., Westford, MA on Friday, September 30th at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Groton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Groton Woman’s Club, P.O.
