Romich Paces Crusader Win; Freshman Scores Season High 29 Points

Freshman guard Corey Romich poured in 29 points to lead Groton-Dunstable (2-8) to an 80-59 mauling of Hudson (1-8) in Midland B action.

"It has been a frustrating season," said varsity coach Keith Woods. "The kids just went out executed and played the way we expected they could."

Romich's career night (so far!) included five threes, six assists and four rebounds.

Drew Moore, Coleman Hill and Romich all drained threes to help send GD off to a 22-16 lead after one.

No turnovers and balanced scoring from Matt Conlin, Drew Moore, Coleman Hill, Corey Romich and Scott Csaplar for the Crusaders more than off-set the Hawks' Jake Loewens' fine 14 point second quarter. The visiting Hawks trailed 38-30 at the half but it could have been worse except for the outstanding effort by Loewen (27 pts.) who had 17 first half points.

A 23 to 15 third quarter advantage pushed the lead to 61-44 with Drew Moore's behind the back pass to Corey Romich who finished, making the ESPN highlight reel and leaving only the final score in doubt.

For a first year varsity player, Romich sees the floor well and his passing makes those around him better. Must be in the genes! Senior captain Matt Conlin was the recipient of the talented guard's outstanding court vision finishing off from a nice pass to take the Crusaders' lead to 71-48 with 5:22 remaining.

"The offense just flowed tonight. Romich had a great game and Drew Moore (8 pts, 4 assists, 2 blocks) is showing good potential coming off the bench for us. Charles Hill is one of those high impact, high energy players contributing 10 points, 13 rebounds and 3 steals. Scott (Csaplar) continues to work hard and he is coming on fast," said a pleased Woods.
