MIAA Update: Proposed Hockey Changes

The MIAA Hockey Committee spent significant time this past Wednesday discussing several rule changes but two in particular that would make the biggest impact.
The MIAA Hockey Committee and Massachusetts State Hockey Association have been pushing for a 17 minute period option in the past, most recently in the 2016-2017 school year.
The proposal is to set the MIAA aligned with National Federation of High School rules that allow for 17 minute periods and two minute minor penalties. The committee passed both rule proposals 14-0, and must now move on through various other MIAA committees and ultimately the Board of Directors and Mass. Interscholastic Athletic Council. However, both groups overwhelmingly rejected the 17-minute periods when it was presented in 2017.
