MIAA Approves Realignments For Four Sports

Groton Dunstable Athletics announces that the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Directors voted unanimously on Tuesday that fall sports will start no earlier than Sept. 14 amid COVID-19 outbreak.
It was previously reported that fall sports would open up in mid-September with two weeks of pre-season practice followed by competitions commencing Oct. 1.
The Board of Directors reviewed the recommendations put forth by the MIAA COVID-19 Task Force on Tuesday at its first meeting of the 2020-21 school year.
The task force is comprised of principals and athletic directors from 14 schools and also includes a physician, a certified athletic trainer, two officiating representatives, a coaching representative, assorted MIAA personnel and a member of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The task force attempted to cover every plausible and improbable situation while also looking to fellow New England states along with the likes of New York and New Jersey to see what course of action they are considering taking. Additional guidance from DESE (Departmart of Elementary and Secondary Education) should be available by August 1.
