Leclerc and Keough Lead Crusaders
In front of a packed North Middlesex gymnasium, visiting Groton Dunstable (1-0) held on to take a 71-66 decision in Midland B boys basketball action.
The Crusaders were led by juniors Tyler LeClerc and Gavin Keough scoring 25 and 18 points respectively.
Trailing 34-27 in the middle of the second quarter, GD went on a 14-2 run, grabbing a 41-36 advantage at the half.
GD held a 55-46 lead after three quarters but a Zach Collin bucket, with under two minutes left in regulation, keyed a late Patriot push to make it a two possession game at 64-59.
"It was a good team win," said coach Greg Gillette. "I was proud of the guys' hard work. They deserved to win this one."
Danny Howes (5 pts.), Logan Higgins (5 pts.), Ethan Cook (9 pts.)and Shane Dawson (7 pts.) led the GD scoring while Richard Sharp had a game-high 26 points and Zach Collins added 21 for the Patriots (0-1).
